To obtain an FWID (Fish and Wildlife Identification) and purchase a hunting license in B.C. you must first pass the CORE exam.

CORE Hunter Education Course exam challenges may be done by individuals who have completed home or online study.

BC Firearms Academy strongly recommends completing our free Online CORE course and reviewing our Free Online Firearms Safety Study Guide.

To be exempted from the firearm safety handling section of the exam, you must present a valid CFSC Course Report.

The exam costs $30 plus g.s.t. BC Firearms Academy does not charge extra if you need to complete the firearms safety handling section of the exam.

Please Bring:

  • Writing Material – Pen & Paper
  • One piece of government-issued identification (other than the PAL)
  • A copy of your CFSC Course Report Form indicating successful completion

Designated Agency

The BC Wildlife Federation (BCWF) operates the CORE Program on behalf of the Ministry of  Forests, Lands, and Natural Resource Operations.

CFSC or CRFSC Retest: 

For individuals who have completed a BC Firearm Academy Canadian Firearms Safety Course Only.  The RCMP firearms program no longer allows individuals to challenge the firearms safety course.

Please Bring:

  • Writing Material – Pen & Paper
  • One piece of government-issued identification
  • A copy of your CFSC or CRFSC Course Report Form indicating a course date within 7 days of the retest date.

Canadian RCMP Firearms Program Retest Guidelines: 

  • Students who are unsuccessful on an exam can take the exam after a minimum of 1 day has passed.
  • If more than 7 days have passed, the student must retake the entire course.
  • If the student fails the re-test, the entire course must be re-taken.
